Tourmaline and Tanzanite Pendant in 18K Gold

A large, freeform tourmaline slice makes up the body of this pendant, its warm orange-to-olive colour shift left visible across the stone's natural surface. A small oval tanzanite is set just above it near the bail, its cool violet-blue standing in deliberate contrast to the tourmaline's warmer tones. The tourmaline's organic, uneven outline is left as cut rather than reshaped into a uniform form. Set in 18K gold, the pairing puts two very differently coloured stones on the same pendant without either one competing for attention.

Tourmaline's colour shift within a single stone is part of why slices like this are cut to preserve the natural face rather than forced into a symmetrical shape. Hand-set in 18K gold at Qala's Jaipur workshop, the tanzanite accent was chosen to sit apart from the tourmaline's palette rather than blend into it.
